Page 4 of 5 January 1st, 2065 - languages
My grandfather eventually learned (and forgot- always mixing languages!) about a dozen of them- unbelievable- and he told me that he used the first computer programs that automatically translated from one language to another what you said.
And wars? They fought wars with people actually moving around, and killing each other.
But certainly the funniest thing was when he explained to me that they imported corn from the Americas, that was then used to produce European biscuits, that were finally sent back to the Americas- no wonder that they wasted resources and had pollution.
Or bottled water: in what was then called Italy he said that people had almost a fetish fascination with bottled water- also if quite often tap water was better.
Well, both my father and my grandfather keep remembering me that January 1st is a new year, and should be a special day, when you think about the past year and plan for the new one.
But they are so attached to the idea of having a special time called "holiday".
Another funny story- the concept that you did not take time off when available or needed by your brain and body, but had to work at a certain time, sleep at another, stop working for few weeks every year: and most people were doing this all at the same time, every year!
