Re-using our material: free but recognizing the source Each article published on CWCommunity.org will be usually published as a free "focus material" paper: only few sections and articles will require a form of donation, payment, or subscription. As with our BusinessFitnessMagazine.Com online magazine, published first in 2003, the purpose is twofold: - * Sharing knowledge, and showing expertise (marketing, if you want)
- * Saving time, as we do not focus on selling high-volume consulting ("billable hours")
- Why we do not ask you to register?
- By sharing the material published here I did a radical choice: I scrapped all the registration requirements, shifting instead to a bona-fide attitude.
If you read documents online, you, like anybody else have certainly more than your fair share of registrations.
I prefer to say: if somebody likes what (s)he reads, (s)he will come back to read more and probably share the knowledge with others, and maybe find a way or another to contribute.
- Is access to the material free
- In the end, my purpose is: increasing exposure, by giving to you, the readers, something for free that you would usually require at least time- and probably also some money.
That's why you can see advertisement on all our websites: few of our readers will become customers for our consulting services, and therefore advertisement is just another revenue stream, sustaining the production of new material.
Some material will be subscription-only, or allow a preview and question-and-answer service only to subscribers (paid or otherwise), e.g. like the informal travel planning service around Europe that I give once in a while to my friends online and offline.
- Are there any limits, copyright, licensing to reuse the material?
- Except when otherwise marked at the end of each section of an article (usually, for licensed material), you will not be asked to license, pay, negotiate, and so on.
I ask you only to: - Contact me to deliver your feed-back
- If possible, deliver an electronic (PDF) copy of any material where you use our material
- Share the link with whoever you think that could benefit from this material
- Quote in the bibliography author, title, publishing link, with the following information, in order:
- Author
- "Title"
- (c) Copyright 2008 CWCommunity.org
- (www.cwcommunity.org)
Remember the meaning of "fair use": if you want to use (online or with other media) more than 2 phrases of each article (including when the article is divided in sections or chapters: it counts as one article)- insert the link to the title instead, and me us for an abstract (if it is not already provided in this site), tailored to the context of your publication: I do not write to generate traffic for your website or sales for your publication ;-)
- Complaints and suggestions
- Please contact me if you have any complaints (e.g. source attribution, erroneous bibliography) or suggestion for improvements or further subjects that you would like to see discussed by us
- Reporting misuses
- As written above, to simplify both your and our life, I disposed with the mandatory registration used by many sites (also, because I hate spamming).
But some people unfortunately in the past copyrighted or patented business processes that we distributed for free on the web in late 1990s- and that's why for few years we did not publish any material online: we could not waste time to wrestle with patent lawyers to challenge patents obtained on our material.
Recent patent law changes in U.S.A. made our life simpler, along with a common consensus on where the patent law is heading to.
But I still see consulting companies obtaining trademarks on common names, including some that I and others used online (check in archive.org) before they obtained the trademark.
So, if you see my material misused by third parties without a proper attribution, please let me know, by sending the public accessible references and, if not confidential or proprietary restricted, links or indication where I can get copy of said material.
Your help will allow me to continue adding new material online for free.
